A new article by OFENT researchers published in peer-reviewed journal “Signo y Pensamiento”

Dr Charo Lacalle published an article co-authored by Dr Beatriz Gomez. The title of the research paper is “Educar entreteniendo: los problemas de salud de los personajes femeninos en la ficción TV española” (“Education through entertaining: the health problems of female characters in Spanish TV fiction”).

The research method proposes an original methodology that combines quantitative techniques (SPSS) and qualitative approaches (socio-semiotics and script theory) to analyze the representation of disease, disability and consumption of toxic substances of female characters of Spanish television fiction. The results of the analysis reveal the ambivalence between the didactic vocation of the stories and the recurrence of topics, as well as the scarce relevance given to women’s health and the promotion of healthy habits.
